Patios, retaining walls, garden beds and full yard builds for Waunakee homeowners — designed to fit a small lot and still look finished.
Waunakee is new. Roughly two-thirds of the housing here went up in 1990 or later, and a lot of it on small lots — the village minimum is 7,600 square feet. That combination shapes most of the work we do here. It is usually a first landscaping rather than a replacement, and the design has to fit a tight footprint while still moving water to the lot line without handing the problem to a neighbor fifteen feet away.
The ground is gently rolling glacial till with a silt-loam cap over a tighter silty clay loam subsoil. On a new build that topsoil has often been stripped and the exposed subsoil driven over by equipment for months, which is exactly why a patio or wall here needs a proper excavated base and free-draining stone rather than native backfill shoved back in. Six Mile Creek runs through the village and the marsh upstream is already carrying a sediment problem, so erosion control on open soil is a real obligation rather than a formality — and the village can require a stormwater permit on a project of any size if Public Works decides it will increase downstream runoff. Same build standard as our Landscaping Services in Madison, WI, sized for a Waunakee lot.
A small lot rewards a plan. These are the pieces we put together on a Waunakee yard.
