Patios, retaining walls, garden beds and full yard builds for Verona homeowners — including the first landscaping a new house has ever had.
Verona sits right on the Johnstown terminal moraine, the furthest edge the last glacier reached before it stopped and melted back. That is not a history lesson, it is why the ground here behaves the way it does. Kettle depressions that hold water after a storm, small ravines cut by meltwater, gravelly outwash in one spot and tight silt loam fifty feet away. Two yards on the same street can need completely different answers, and a base that works on one can fail on the other.
The other thing that makes Verona different is how new it is. More than half the homes here were built in 2000 or later, so a large share of our work is the first landscaping a property has ever had — topsoil on a builder-graded lot, grading pitched away from a foundation that was backfilled in a hurry, beds and sod going in where there is currently nothing. We also keep an eye on Badger Mill Creek, which the DNR classifies as a cold-water, thermally sensitive stream, so runoff gets more scrutiny here than in a typical suburb. The approach is the same one behind our Landscaping Services in Madison, WI, adjusted for moraine ground and new construction.
On a new Verona lot the order usually runs grading first, then hardscape, then beds and lawn. We do all of it.
